Our History

Our History

North East Lincolnshire has a rich history and heritage, dating back beyond the Vikings to the early settlers. Each of our three main towns is unique.

Grimsby – the founding town of the area, dating back to Viking times, and the centre of the fishing industry in Lincolnshire for years.

Immingham – the place where the Pilgrim Separatists left our shores for the first time, years before leaving for the new world.

Cleethorpes – the height of fashion for the Victorian visitors to take the waters.
