Learn about Great Grimsby’s fishing heritage and experience the sights, sounds, smells and movement of the 1950s as the centre takes you back to the life of our trawlermen and their families both at home and at sea.

When the early railways connected Great Grimsby to London’s famous fish markets in 1848, the town began an astonishing development into the World’s premier fishing port. Fresh fish was now available nationwide and a national dish of Fish and Chips became possible. 

The Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre is a multi-award winning attraction which will transport you back in time to the 1950’s heyday of this famous port. Carefully crafted sets and original preserved trawler interiors capture the atmosphere and essence of a remarkable way of life in one of the most dangerous occupations in living memory. 

Visitors will experience this twentieth century saga by signing on as a crew member and travelling in their footsteps – leaving your 1950’s Grimsby home for a trip to the perilous Arctic fishing grounds and returning home to the comfort of the Freeman’s Arms public house. 

Don’t miss the opportunity to tour the magnificent M.F.V. ROSS TIGER – the earliest diesel engine side trawler preserved in the UK. The ship is preserved in a permanent mooring outside of the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre. Tours offer a unique opportunity to see first-hand what it was like to be aboard a trawler in what is often described as Britain’s most dangerous job. 

Accessibility: The Centre and galleries are suitable for visitors with disabilities.  Blue badge parking bays are situated close to the main entrance, those displaying their blue badge allows free parking. Free admission for carers/personal assistants to the museum and to paid for events and exhibitions. Full accessibility information.

Groups: Groups of 15+ people are welcome at the Centre at least two weeks in advance.  Discounted museum admission,  free admission for the group organiser and coach driver, free coach parking and welcome talk are all included. 

Families: The Centre is a breastfeeding friendly museum. Additionally, they also offer a small buggy park at the main entrance.
