Paul Draper (Mansun)
25th October 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm£25
JALP Events present Singer, guitarist, and songwriter Paul Draper, best known as the lead vocalist with the popular British rock band Mansun, and will perform a 25th-anniversary show of their ‘Six’ album on Wednesday 25th October.
Formed in 1995, originally under the name Grey Lantern, the lineup consisted of Paul Draper, Steve Heaton, Carlton Hibbert, Dominic Chad, Stove King, and Mark Swinnerton.
Within months of formation, the group changed their name to Manson, where they independently released a debut single, “Take It Easy Chicken,” that had several major labels bidding for their services. After signing with Parlophone, Manson became Mansun, reportedly due to threatened legal action from Charles Manson.
After releasing multiple albums, including their debut album, Attack of the Grey Lantern, which rose to number one on the U.K. Charts (and knocking Blur out of the top spot), the band would split up in 2003.
Draper would maintain a low profile in the music business, until he previewed new solo music in 2014, which was then followed by an announcement that he had signed to Kscope Records to release his first solo release, EP One, in June 2016. He returned in the summer of 2017 with his first full-length effort, Spooky Action, recorded with Catherine AD (The Anchoress) and longtime Mansun collaborator P-Dub. Draper embarked on a nationwide tour in support of the album, featuring Catherine AD as part of the live ensemble.
