16th September 2022 - 17th September 2022

Free

Discover The Time Trap Museum and Great Grimsby Town Hall during Heritage Open Days

Come and see the heritage of Great Grimsby Town Hall. View the Assembly and Banqueting Rooms, refurbished meticulously to the ornate style of the original decorations of over 100 years ago, and the newly refurbished Bremerhaven Room.   Wander the corridors and examine the display cases of silver regalia and historical items, the stained-glass windows, the portraits of past dignitaries. View the Council Chamber and see archive documents and photographs, which will be displayed over both days. Visitors on Saturday will also have the opportunity to meet the Mayor.

FREE ENTRY to the Time Trap Museum, a surprising attraction in the former prison cells of Grimsby Town Hall. Embark on a journey through time, uncovering the towns colourful past through dark, twisting corridors and explore mysterious nooks, crannies, and winding staircases.

Exhibitions include:

  • Great Grimsby Family History display – Crosland Suite Ground Floor
  • View the Civic Regalia and historic visitor’s books – Mayor’s Parlour, Ground Floor
  • North Lincs Art Group Painting Exhibition, and Art Demonstrations – Bremerhaven Room Ground Floor
  • Grimsby Photography Group Exhibition – Banqueting Room, First Floor
  • Made in Grimsby exhibition telling the nostalgic story of Grimsby-made products, including jam, beer, fish fingers, caravans and more!
  • Archives and Libraries documents display – Council Chamber, First Floor

Plus two talks will take place in the Assembly Room on Saturday 17th September:

11am-12.30pm – ‘The Great Bustard & Other Lost Birds’ with The Lincolnshire Bird Club

In this illustrated talk, Phil Espin, and Phil Hyde, co-authors of Birds of Lincolnshire (2021), will talk about the Great Bustard and other species that were once bred in Lincolnshire but have now long been lost. However, the duo’s story is far from being all gloom and doom. The past 25 years have seen some welcome arrivals – Little Egret and Cetti’s Warbler to name but two. And could there be more to follow.

2pm-3pm – ‘Mr Grimsby – Sir Edward Watkin’ with Geoff Scargill from the Watkin Society
