Walking

Whether you are the type of person to ‘get your hiking boots on’, enjoy a ‘gentle stroll with the family’ or prefer a ‘brisk walk with the dogs’ we have just the walk for you. We have over 50 parks and open spaces to enjoy alongside coastal paths and countryside trails.

With a lot more people outside enjoying the fresh air, we continue to build our lists of places to walk so there’ll be even more to places to discover in North East Lincolnshire.

Families might like to explore while walking, why not try out some of the local Geocaching trails, like the Great Grimsby Heritage Trail. Your young ones might like to hunt out dinosaurs, planets or fairies whilst on a walk. The FREE Love Exploring app, available for download through both Google and Apple stores, offers great fun, using augmented reality to discover along the way.

The beautiful open countryside of the Lincolnshire Wolds is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and features miles of walks and several attractive villages. Grab your walking boots and choose one of the many wonderful walks in North East Lincolnshire and beyond.

We have gentle wanders, brisk coastal strolls or longer rumbles in the countryside such as the 20-mile circular route “The Wanderlust Way”. This route was named to commemorate the life and work of James Neville Cole, founder of the Wanderlust Rambling Club. It starts and finishes at Bradley Woods, passing through attractive small villages and across woods and farmland of the undulating Lincolnshire Wolds, from where there are views across the mouth of the Humber Estuary.

For yet more routes, our friends at Tape2Tape, who organise local fun runs, 10K races and half marathons, have devised FitRoutes, 21 routes around North East Lincolnshire to walk and enjoy.

If you enjoy walking, you may like cycling. We have a number of cycling routes to download and explore too.

Running

Whatever your running route of choice is – whether its urban, countryside, coastal or park – North East Lincolnshire has it all. Help and support is also available for those wishing to extend their abilities. Cleethorpes Athletics Club caters for those aged 7+ and of all abilities in track and field, road running, cross country and fell running. They also cater for the absolute beginners.

North East Lincolnshire is also home to the Orsted Great Grimsby 10K, a circular super-flat urban 10K run held in the summer. For something more challenging, the ABP Coastal Half Marathon offers a mix of terrains and scenic views along the coastline. Fun runs also take place including the annual Santa Stride and at Halloween, all organised by the great guys at Tape2Tape
