Fish Town Photographic Exhibition
July 8 @ 10:30 am - July 10 @ 8:00 pmFree
This photographic exhibition documents the transformation of Grimsby’s fishing industry by the new European Union legislation in 1990 and its subsequent exit from the EU in 2020 . This monochrome body of work documents how the fish docks, its workers and the community lived and worked, such a unique way of life ‘which suddenly ended in the summer of 1990’ and how, over 30 years, it evolved into a modern-day hi-tech, global seafood trading port.
This stunning work by documentary photographer Steve Thornton documents Grimsby docks over 30 years. It records the working life of filleters and dock workers, the ice house at work, buying and selling, early morning auctions, cafés and lots more.
The capture of these unique moments in time is made even more impactful by the use of monochrome to convey the industrial starkness and an emotive, raw honesty.
A unique exhibition of documentary images never published before.
New FISH TOWN books to be launched at the exhibition.
